Me building a Model-T Ford. This picture was taken in 1959.

Model is finished
All my life I have built miniatures. They have, for some reason, facinated me. So, it should stand to reason I would get involved in building model cars. Actually, I began building model cars around 1958 and have never stopped. My father hated plastic. He thought plastic was just a fad. But he still bought models for me.

In my basement I have created, what I call the "Car Corner". I have collected many things over the years that have to do with cars and trucks. Many of these things are in the Car Corner. But this is also a place that I can highlight my model collection. I owned a hobby shop that I ran from 1995 untill 1999. So I got many models while I had the store.

Here's a few examples from my collection. Sorry about the dust, they are in the basement after all.

This is the area in my basement where all of my models are displayed. I have a 6-room basement so I am lucky to have the space for all of my collections

Turn Table

Turn Table
This 1955 Mercedes Benz Gullwing has never been out of a case. I built this car about 35 years ago. The case that it's in is a regular model car display case but I have installed a turn table from a microwave oven. This allows the car to constantly turn slowly. The car has an opening trunk, doors and hood. It displays very well with it's information board and many trophies.

Model Car Turntable ~

This was really easy to build. I used a turntable from an old microwave oven that had died. The turntable still worked so I used a scale model clear plastic display case and cut a small hole in the center. Then mounted the tiny motor under it and made a round wooden stand that would roll on the wheels from the microwave rack. This display is actually 23-years old since I made it back in 1998. It is plugged into my basement lights to come on when they do. So it has been used every single day in the last 23-years. It still works perfectly...as you can see.

My brother-in-law built this car. Then he died and his widow gave it to me.

I don't know the manufactuer. Possibly Revell.

My sister-in-law also gave me ten factory sealed kits that my brother-in-law had bought and never built.
